Viewpoint-dependent theories of recognition suggest that the viewer must mentally rotate the image to a canonical orientation and the further the presentation angle is from this canonical view, the more recognition times and errors increase [1] [5].
Although the rotation angle of the target face could differ from the rotation angle of the choice faces by 0°, 45°, or 90°, the two choice faces were always rotated to the same presentation angle within a trial (see Figure 1).
