Routine data collected at the clinics include information about ART initiation, ART combination prescribed, vital status, TB status and treatment, pregnancy, viral load and CD4.
There was a statistically significant association between current supplementary prescribing status and year of qualification as a supplementary prescriber, with 70.7% of pharmacists qualifying in 2004 reporting current prescribing, compared to 55.6% of those qualifying in 2005, and 44% of those qualifying in 2006 (χ2 = 14.35, d.f. = 1, p = 0.002).

The main strengths of the study were that it provided an explanatory framework for changes linked to a quantitative study into the effect of protected learning time on prescribing, that the practices were stratified for inclusion according to change in prescribing and that prescribing status was blinded by both interviewee and interviewer.
