Unfortunately, this lack of new scientific information leads to uncertainty for health care providers about whether to prescribe needed medications and sometimes results in no drug treatment at all for pregnant or breastfeeding patients with an illness [4].
Pregnant women may be reluctant to receive, or healthcare providers may be reluctant to prescribe, needed medications or vaccines because of fear of harming the fetus.
Within the UK, issues such as legal authority to prescribe need attention if the potential for using PAs in primary care is to be fully realised.
