The 16-year-olds from Bankstown were charged with "acts in preparation to commit a terrorist act" and also "membership of a terrorist organisation".
"He is currently being interviewed in relation to the offences of Acts in Preparation to Commit a Terrorist Attack and Collecting Documents to Facilitate a Terrorist Act, contrary to the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act," the statement reads.

Meanwhile, The Independent has learned that the numbers of "Syria-related" arrests, including alleged offences such as terrorist financing, preparation of acts to commit terrorism and attending a terrorist training camp, have soared over the past six months.
