"prelude before" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
It is usually used to indicate that something will come before or lead into something else. For example: "I wrote a short prelude before the main speech."
It is thought that the final prelude, "Before Your Throne I Now Appear," was dictated from his deathbed.
