"I would prefer just prelims and finals, so I would be able to handle more swims," said Lochte, who qualified to race in four individual events and at least two relays here.

She realizes her strategy of not holding back in prelims or the semifinals is not for everyone.
"I think some people need prelims to get going and semis to fine tune and then by finals they're ready to go," she said.
