He keeps all three types of equines on hand so that troops are familiar with the variations in their build and disposition, and are prepared for whatever pack animals they might encounter when they're deployed, but the mules — imperturbable, alert, stalwart — are Parkhurst's preferred classroom tools.
The actual classroom questions asked about the current learning environment; and the preferred classroom questions asked about the ideal learning environment of the students.
When asked if they would prefer classroom learning over online/distance learning or any other method, 68.5% expressed agreement.
Although students appreciate the convenience of time and place flexibility asynchronous communication affords in distance education, they prefer classroom instruction and face to face interaction with teachers and peers [ 2- 4].
"Ordinarily I would prefer a classroom situation, but this was a great alternative," she said.
Several studies report that students enjoy being able to learn in their own pace and that they prefer flipped classroom over traditional approaches (Butt, 2014; Davies et al., 2013; Larson & Yamamoto, 2013; McLaughlin et al., 2014; Roach, 2014; Gilboy et al., 2015).
