For now, though, I'm going to set aside what these individuals are going to do on November 8 – partly because I think predictive journalism is having a bad effect on democracy and partly because I haven't seen enough data to give you a solid answer.

When the predictive superstar Nate Silver announced last summer that he would defect from the New York Times, it began a wave of new, new money-backed "personal brand" journalism startups that launch in earnest with FiveThirtyEight on ESPN next week.
It was called predictive processing.
The predictive power was amazing.
Translated, it means predictive policing.

But it is rarely predictive.
