We employed both field and laboratory experimental designs using multiple paired high- and low- predation populations in order to isolate the roles of ecology, geography, and both inter and intra sexual selection on the progress or limitations to the evolution of reproductive isolation.
The frequency of the LWS-1 (180 Ala) allele varies across P. reticulata populations in Trinidad such that low predation populations are nearly fixed for the LWS-1 (180 Ser) allele while high predation populations had a greater frequency of the LWS-1 (180 Ala) allele.
Interestingly, for all of our populations of P. reticulata, the frequency of the LWS-1 Alaalleleele was as high or higher than the high predation populations of Trinidad [ 12] highlighting the potential role of predation in determining LWS-1 allele frequencies.
