Infarct size, stroke volume, Ees, Ea and PRSW were significantly better preserved after preconditioning (Table 1, 2 and Additional file 2).
Some pro-apoptotic genes were downregulated after hypoxic preconditioning (Table 1) like Mef2c, a transcription factor involved in neuronal loss in Parkinson's disease [ 28] and in the regulation of apoptosis in macrophages [ 29].
There was no significant effect of the factors "time" (p = 0.73), "sevoflurane" (p = 0.54) and the combination of the factors (p = 0.67) on rSO2 during sevoflurane preconditioning (Table 3).
