Apart from providing an efficient method for gene discovery, EST data sets can be used to provide low precision estimates of mRNA levels through estimations of EST redundancy.
The new estimator is asymptotically unbiased and we show that high precision estimates can be obtained for samples covering as little as 25% of the total population size.
