Tools tested were the "Sharing" subscale of Krupat's two-part Patient-Practitioner Orientation Scale [ 24]; the patient involvement section of Ogden et al's four-part measure of GPs' and patients' beliefs about "patient-centredness" [ 25] and a tool developed by Elwyn and Edwards to measure the effect of an educational intervention on GP attitudes to shared decision making [ 26].
Research is also required to explore whether practitioners' ethical orientations impact on their views on the acceptability and use of deferred consent in this setting.
It is possible that, in line with findings about nurses [ 51], practitioners' task-orientation (i.e., focusing on treating the disorder) may be a barrier to recognising factors that could compromise motivation and program adherence of clients.

CAM practitioners and practices differ markedly from conventional medicine practitioners and practices with respect to professional training, practice patterns, business models, treatment and healing paradigms, philosophical orientation to the patient/client – practitioner relationship and perceptions of treatment effectiveness [ 11- 18].
