To assess and compare the smoking cessation practices and smoking behavior of Dutch general practitioners (GPs), cardiologists, and lung physicians.
Applications of acceptance-based interventions have proven efficacious in fostering health behaviors, such as weight management [ 19, 20], physical activity practice [ 21], and smoking cessation [ 22].
Among the smoking fathers, 5 of the 18 had not changed their smoking practices and were smoking at the time of the last interview, and 7 initiated a reduction in their level of smoking either during their partner's pregnancy or the early childhood period.
The interventions are suitable to reach entire populations of general practices and smoking patients.
Considering these findings, we expect that smoking-specific cognitions will mediate the association between parenting practices and smoking initiation.
Participants in this study will complete a detailed baseline questionnaire including participants' demographic characteristics, lifestyle practices, and smoking history.
In bivariate analysis, no significant differences in seropositivity were observed by education level, household income, marital status, healthcare coverage, place of birth, sexual practices, and smoking status (p>0.05; table 1).
While Indigenous youth report high levels of exposure to smoking role models and smoking socialisation practices among their family and social networks, this study provides some indication of a progressive denormalisation of smoking among some Indigenous youth.
A more recent study has also shown family and peer influences play a central role in smoking uptake with Indigenous youth [ 32], reporting high levels of smoking role models and smoking socialisation practices, consistent with the high nicotine levels in the non-smokers in our study.
