"practical reading" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
You can use it to refer to any form of reading that is intended to help the reader learn a practical skill or gain useful knowledge. For example: "The class focused on practical reading, offering students opportunities to learn real-world techniques they could apply in their own lives."
