The former is randomly or systematically used to inactivate potential essential genes, and gene essentiality could be determined based on the living situation of the organism.
Such a reaction shows high potential for essentiality [ 2, 3].
We also found potential differences in essentiality of homologous genes between Salmonella and E. coli (summarized in Tables 2 and 3).
Although these prediction models show high confidence levels, they still have two limitations: first, the conserved orthologs between species only account for a small portion of the genome [ 22] and, second, the orthologs, especially in distantly related species, often show variations in gene regulations and functions [ 6, 23], which lead to potential diversity in gene essentiality.
Interestingly, successive modification of the ITO surface with aminopropylsilane and disuccinimidyl suberate, of which essentiality to the potential response to indole compounds we previously reported, improved the stability of the rest potential and enabled the electrodes to respond to tryptophan in case of specimens with Ra values ranging between ∼2 and ∼3 nm but not for those with Ra of ∼1 nm.
We therefore conclude that the proportion of essential genes (P E ) of mouse duplicates is age dependent, even after correcting the potential confounding effect from the essentiality-conservation dependence.
Gene essentiality and hydrogen production potential have also been assessed.
Helicase is considered to be a potential antimalarial target due to its essentiality for parasite life cycle [ 67].
A statistically significant evolutionary rate correlation between co-expressed and genes remains even after we additionally control for two further potential confounding factors, protein length and gene essentiality, even if co-expression explains only about 2% of the variation in evolutionary rate; a similar result is seen for genes with synthetic lethal interactions (Table 2).
Correcting for ascertainment bias, however, we find that there is no significant relationship between HIV interaction and protein essentiality, and there is a potential under-representation of disease-association amongst HIV interacting human proteins.
