Proprioception is defined as the perception of joint position and movement as well as "the afferent information arising from internal peripheral areas of the body (located predominantly in the muscles, tendons, joint capsules and ligaments) that contribute to postural control (postural equilibrium), joint stability (segmental posture), and several conscious sensations (muscle sense)" [ 2, 3].
They consisted of a behavioural sequence including (i) movement arrest, sometimes associated with limb jerks; (ii) hyperkinetic running, often with repeated, large clonics of all limbs and frequently incontinence and loss of postural equilibrium; and (iii) dystonic or hypertonic posture of the trunk, limbs and tail, often asymmetrically.
The vestibular system is the sensory apparatus of the inner ear that helps the body maintain its postural equilibrium.
The aim of this study was to determine whether increased muscular tension disturbs postural equilibrium more when it is asymmetrical.
The human ear, like that of other mammals, contains sense organs that serve two quite different functions: that of hearing and that of postural equilibrium and coordination of head and eye movements.
The inner ear consists of two functional units: the vestibular apparatus, consisting of the vestibule and semicircular canals, which contains the sensory organs of postural equilibrium; and the snail-shell-like cochlea, which contains the sensory organ of hearing.

To maintain equilibrium, postural responses to surface perturbations must be appropriately scaled to both how fast and how far the center of body mass is displaced on the base of support.
They proposed that stride time variability reflects gait patterning mechanisms and the rhythmicity of locomotor pacing while variability of stance and swing time more closely mirror dynamic equilibrium and postural control mechanisms.
Different variables related to the greater risk of falls have also been reported such as factors of the individuals themselves (muscular strength of the lower extremities, equilibrium or postural competence, difficulties in vision, cognitive deterioration), purely environmental factors (home lighting, rugs, pets...) and iatrogenic factors (different groups of drugs, drug combinations) [ 18- 21].
A rapid step is the most important protective postural strategy, acting to recover equilibrium and prevent a fall from initiating.
As we have already demonstrated in a group of healthy individuals, postural stabilization is more challenging than quiet erect posture because, before reaching final equilibrium, the subjects must dissipate any residual energy associated with body motion [19].
