After finishing my thesis at the Max Planck Institute, I was curious to learn new things and decided to start a postdoctoral training course in the pharmaceutical industry.
Today, of course, postdoctoral education is considered an absolute necessity in most fields if you're interested in the academic career path, and in many other areas as well.
(2004, p. 1) Eight years later, classes, courses, workshops, postdoctoral fellowships, faculty positions, university chairs, and research grant selection panels in evo devo are widespread.
As a scientist who has never had extensive ethics training, the other of us (Wendy Law), an SEP postdoctoral fellow, attended ethics courses at the University of Washington and Georgetown University, as well as teacher professional development workshops on using ethics in the classroom offered by the Washington Association for Biomedical Research and by UW's High School Human Genome Project.
In Figure 2, within each social identity group, three comparisons were made: 1) PhD entry versus PhD completion (to examine changes during the course of graduate training), 2) PhD completion versus currently (to examine changes during the course of postdoctoral training), and 3) PhD entry versus currently (to examine changes from the beginning of graduate training to postdoctoral training).
The American Dental Association advocates that an RA course should be a minimum of 14 hours, completed as a part of the predoctoral dental education program or in a postdoctoral continuing education competency course [ 20].
"This is a class that a lot of people take thinking that we're going to talk about whales all day," said Tracy M. Quan, the postdoctoral fellow who teaches the course.

There was, of course, a third option: a postdoctoral fellowship, living in a cardboard box, and drinking my own pee.
