A total of 28 serum samples were collected: 18 from patients with acute disease who met the working case definition, 8 from patients with possible disease with headache and joint pain (patients 010, 013, 018, 020, 021, 022, 025, and 027), and 2 from convalescent patients (patients 020 and 028).
As with rs3135388, each of these SNPs contains a number of other possible disease associations with P < 0.05, as shown in Figure 2. Table 3 presents all SNP disease associations with P < 0.01 (an arbitrary cutoff) that to our knowledge have not been previously reported.
The wide variety of possible disease combinations with diverse impacts on the patient makes it difficult to tackle the phenomenon of multimorbidity.
Large-scale case control comparisons as well as functional studies will be useful to identify any possible disease risks associated with these variants.
Interestingly, the posterior distribution for the position of a possible disease mutation coincided with the region suggested by both fixed- and variable-sized haplotype analyses (Supplementary Figure 3 in Additional File 1).
This score is used as a rough estimate to indicate possible disease association through LD with reported SNPs in a collection of genome-wide association studies (see Table S5) where possible.
Health assessment identified participants with possible disease but without a previous diagnosis in their medical record for hypertension (25.1%, 206/821), ischaemic heart disease (12.6%, 99/788), depression (6.9%, 53/772), dementia (6.7%, 56/840), and atrial fibrillation (3.8%, 30/788).
Forcing the sum of scalar products to unity, this output provides a probabilistic mapping of the possible diseases associated with the clinical presentation.
Additional and possibly multiple prognostic predictors may help improve the prediction models by helping better discriminating the patients with different possible disease outcomes [ 4].
The algorithms described above were used to compute a score A p, d) for each possible disease d that is associated with an interval containing p. When scoring p- d, all disease associations known for p are discarded.
To protect children from possible disease outbreaks, UNICEF will work with partners from the Government, United Nations agencies and international as well local non-governmental organizations to provide safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and hygiene kits.
