The bird was in a cage and its owner opened the cage so that it could be posed, saying that the bird was quite tame.
"Now, it's posing," said Mr. Rittner.
"When a camera is pointed at them, people have their pose," said Mr. Bornfriend, referring to digital snapshots.
He called the pose, said to stimulate the thyroid, "one of the greatest boons conferred on humanity by our ancient sages".
"It still seems we're stuck in this crouched, tactical, reactive pose," said Brian Katulis, a senior fellow and expert on Egypt at the Center for American Progress.
"I call that his Madame Bovary pose," said Mr. Kaye, who is teaching courses on Victorian literature, D. H. Lawrence and the history of the novel.
For the last year, the names of all those in Connecticut have been available on the Internet, regardless of risk they pose, said the state's attorney general, Richard Blumenthal.
