It can be used in contexts discussing characteristics or traits that are unique to a particular population or group.
Example: "The study highlighted the importance of population specificity in understanding the health outcomes of different ethnic groups."
Alternatives: "demographic specificity" or "group specificity"
Population specificity of genetic variants, if the population-specific allele is the derived allele, might originate from two different scenarios: in the first scenario, a variant allele originates in a single population and remains restricted to the population of its origin.
This kind of population specificity will have detrimental effects on the design of population-specific clinical CHG-arrays, and on the interpretation and assignment of pathogenicity of CNV findings in individuals from different ethnic populations [ 25, 51– 51].
