A recent study carried out, appropriately, by scientists at the Galton Laboratory, compared two different population categorizations -- one based on commonly used ethnic labels like African-American, Asian, or Caucasian, and the other divided according to purely genetic criteria -- to see which classification system better predicted individuals' responses to therapeutic drugs.
The haplotype designations for mtDNA analyses are population categorizations that have been used extensively in the past to infer population movements [10].
However, we believe this limitation to be minor since research finds adding these factors only make slight improvements to population-based risk categorization [ 30, 31].
In addition to sources identified during the measure search process, when possible we also attempted to contact the developer or owner of instruments to solicit additional information about their use and asked for feedback on the patient population and setting categorizations.
This match size requirement appears to have resulted in relatively reliable pretest probability assessments in the validation population based upon the categorization data in Table 2.
The application of the ANT algorithm to the validation population led to the categorization of 27 patients (63%) as being at risk for OSA, with higher sensitivity and negative predictive values than the classical screening tools (Table 2).
The registration and categorization of populations according to their abilities, gender and ethnic group were all tremendously enhanced.
Comparability of these studies was, however, limited due to differences in drug utilisation measures, inclusion criteria of the study populations, age group categorizations and classifications of antibiotic subgroups [ 11- 18].
The concept of such a separation had its origin in the Dutch colonial administration's categorization of the population on the basis of ancestry.
According to the abovementioned categorization, the study population included four users, eight readers, and five non-users.
