Organotin compounds (OTCs), polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs), alkylphenols (APs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the sediments were analyzed.
Bisphenol A and some metabolites of phthalates, pesticides (mainly pyrethroids), dioxins, furans, polychlorobiphenyls, brominated flame retardants, perfluorinated compounds and metals (except uranium) were quantified in almost 100%% of the pregnant women.

However, freshwater ecosystems are polluted with complex mixtures including emerging and well-known pollutants, like heavy metals, polychlorobiphenyls, personal care products, drugs and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), as well as their transformation products.
