The phrase "plot direction" is correct and usable in written English.
You can use it to refer to the story's main direction or intended outcome. For example: "The plot direction of the novel was unexpected, but ultimately satisfying."
One part of me thinks that this plot direction could be just the thing to revive a series which seems baggy and flagging after only three episodes.
