The bishop initiated a fund-raising campaign, beginning in 1995, that raised $43 million in pledges, of which about $28 million has been received, said Dr. Joseph McAleer, the diocese's director of communications.
The GCF currently has $10.3 billion in pledges, of which $2.5 billion could be spent on projects in 2016.

To date the nonprofit museum has raised about $54 million in pledges ($25 million of which have been collected), with little movement over the last year toward its goal of $100 million.
There will be explicit pledges, some of which we already know: the Tories will woo the City with the promise of balancing the books by 2018; Labour will stoke its core base in abolishing the bedroom tax; and – remembering that they're leaking votes to the Greens – the Liberal Democrats plan to introduce a Zero Carbon Bill to "end Britain's adverse impact on climate change for good by 2050".
That will give donors a chance to make good on their pledges, many of which remained unfulfilled.
Further fund raising generated 1,200 pledges, 95 percent of which were fulfilled: 60 percent of the money came from 10 percent of the parishioners and approximately 10 percent of the people did not contribute at all.
But the company hasn't yet publicly reported progress on its soy or cattle pledges, both of which have 2017 due dates, and Rabinovitch says the task is proving more difficult than he and most corporate sustainability directors imagined.
"Over half of London's boroughs have already signed, or are soon to sign, the London Child Poverty Pledge, many of which contain commitments to ensure proper pay for staff and contractors".
Streep believes so strongly in the project that she has pledged $1 million, of which she has already given $400,000.
