By scouring census records from 1790 to 1930, Mr. Sherrod and Mr. Rayback discovered Garage Empty, Hysteria Johnson, King Arthur, Infinity Hubbard, Please Cope, Major Slaughter, Helen Troy, several Satans and a host of colleagues to the famed Ima Hogg (including Ima Pigg, Ima Muskrat, Ima Nut and Ima Hooker).
There also was very valuable discussion of the words people use to refer to the killing of otherwise healthy animals "in the name of conservation," with the recognition that it is not euthanasia, or mercy-killing, but rather "zoothanasia" when it's done in zoos or slaughter when done in other situations (please see "Animal Euthanasiaa' Is Often Slaughter: Consider Kangaroos").
So when I tell you I was pleased at the slaughter of thousands of innocents, I do so with a profound sense of perplexity.
My father told them: "You can slaughter me, but please do not tell my family that you have taken me".
To the Editor: Regarding "The Days Are Numbered for Britain's Dogged Pursuits" (Advisory, Dec. 26): Please don't encourage more people to come over here and slaughter our wildlife.
Please, Sylvester Stallone, the world doesn't need another movie where Rambo wears a cowboy hat and slaughters an entire Burmese town or whatever.
"Please, please, please... .. "Down".
"Dad, please, please, please".
Perhaps these shiny boutiques, each so resolute, so eager to please, are weary of decorating the illusions of another century, prefer the runaway slaves they hid in their root cellars, their dreams of slaughter and deliverance?
Thus, please beware of docking!
