Even Mr. Goldsmith poked a little fun, saying his dark blue Think City with the silver roof looked like the older cousin of his children's plastic Cozy Coupes -- those familiar red and yellow toy cars that are ubiquitous in suburban playrooms and backyards.
The two-passenger Smart Fortwo, which is manufactured by DaimlerChrysler, is only a hundred and six inches long, or nearly three and a half feet shorter than a Mini Cooper (and just six feet longer than a Cozy Coupe, the orange-and-yellow plastic toddler-powered vehicle sold by Little Tikes).
Not only was it designed in the US, the Cozy Coupe represents one of the few plastic children's toys to be made there.
There are "oldies" and "bombs," cars and trucks built before 1955; "traditionals," American cars built from the 1960's through the 1980's; trucks and mini-trucks; and "euros," which, despite that label, are typically compact Japanese cars with oversize wheels and elaborate plastic body cladding that mimics the look of European sports coupes.
Other owners have given their cars nicknames, including "Dusty Duck," "Donut," "the Coupe" (as in Cozy Coupe, the name of a Little Tikes plastic car that is reminiscent of the shape of the Think car), and "the Singer" (as in sewing machine).
But hey, it was cool looking and affordable, and it had a sort of rakish coupe look to it, with faux, non-functional side vents (made of plastic no less) and sporty wheels.
My only complaint with the G35 coupe was one I have with other Nissan vehicles: the dashboard buttons are too small and some plastic interior parts feel too cheap.
