Compared to pure plantations, mixed plantations had higher cherry height (up to 28%) in 5 out of 6 sites and higher cherry DBH (up to 34.5%) in 4 out of 6 sites, which could be attributed to a combination of effects, including the presence of nitrogen fixing species.
Most species (14) were associated with tall plantations (>2 m), seven species were associated with plantations of intermediate (1 2 m) height, and six species were associated with plantations of low height (<1 m).
It was found that mixed plantations did not have larger height growth rates, but that the diameter growth rate was higher in mixed plantations, with a moderate but statistically significant effect size.
The second factor of major importance for the bird fauna was the height of the plantations.
