After the second-time growth and as shown in Figure 5, all three samples have strong (002) peaks, indicative of dominant basal plane growth mechanism.
This plane growth direction is in accordance with the XRD pattern plotted in Fig. 1a, which shows the [400] peaks intensity higher than the obtained from bulk materials.
The films showed a granular morphology and a preferred basal plane growth of 2H-MoS2 parallel to the substrate after annealing at high temperatures.
The different surfactants are directionally adsorbed on different planes, and this affects the surface free energies of crystals and the crystal plane growth rate, which results in the modification of the particle size and morphology [15].
The formation of hexagonal column ice crystals in the presence of sbwAFP suggests that sbwAFP binds to the prismatic plane and inhibit ice growth on the plane, but it does not necessarily mean that the prismatic plane growth occurs by a step growth mode.
