"planar view" is correct and can be used in written English.
It is typically used to describe an image or diagram taken from a two dimensional perspective. For example, "The planar view of the building clearly depicted its height and width."
Its abstraction derives simply from the planar view of coast and sea, and the motionless drift of the glider, propelled along by pure air.
