One of his most outspoken opponents is Dr. John D. Goodson, a primary-care physician and associate professor at Harvard Medical School who says that concierge practices are a slow-developing apocalypse for the medical system.
"A lot of people are suffering from a lack of health insurance," said Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, another of the study's authors, who is a physician and associate professor of medicine at Harvard.
"A high prevalence of infection in the pool of potential partners can spread sexually transmitted infections rapidly within the ethnic group and keep it there," said Dr. Adaora A. Adimora, an infectious disease physician and associate professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill.
"What was really missing from the conversation after Parkland was the real impact [of gun violence] across our country on real Americans," said Ranney, who also works as an emergency physician and associate professor at Brown University's Albert Medical School.
"For a small state without Medicaid expansion to mobilize opioid treatment programs and reach as many people as we have is truly amazing," said Dr. Kelly Barth, a physician and associate professor of behavioral medicine.

"Heat waves exacerbate all sorts of chronic disease issues," says Jeremy Hess, an emergency medicine physician and associate professor at the University of Washington.
Insects and with them the diseases they harbor have also been affected by new climatic conditions, says Jonathan Patz, a physician and associate professor of environmental studies and population health sciences at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
