We parameterise the model for the host species of the forest tent caterpillar Malacosoma disstria Hbn., a pest insect for which fragmented landscape increases the severity of outbreaks.
Thus, our goals in this study for HC were to determine if herbivores other than deer avoid HC-containing food when an alternative is available, to compare herbivore HC responses with those of omnivores, and to identify any pest species for which HC may be effective as a repellent and/or any laboratory species that may provide a good model for future investigation of the mechanisms of HC avoidance.
