The formalisms in this tradition not only support the formalization of complex, realistic planning problems, but provide entirely new insights into reasoning about the causal effects of actions, the persistence of states, and the interactions between actions and continuous physical processes.
However, changes in directions which alleviate the stress (operationally defined as adaptive/beneficial), also reduce the drive for additional changes, thus promoting higher persistence of states (and processes) associated with lower stress (Fig. 2a).
