Qualitative monitoring of neuromuscular transmission (peripheral train-of-four nerve stimulation to visually screen for a fade of contraction) did not significantly modify the risk, and reversal with neostigmine even increased the risk of severe postoperative respiratory failure.
Our RHB program included low intensity peripheral muscle training but did not have any endurance training which could explain this lack of effect.
Many projects mentioned that when placing machines in more peripheral sites, training in how to use a computer was more difficult than training for the test procedure itself.
c) Low intensity peripheral muscle training.
The effects of peripheral muscle training on specific systemic inflammatory mediator levels (TNF-α, IL-6 and CRP) have been proposed to be associated with muscle dysfunction in COPD [ 39, 40].
The types of exercises performed included cycle ergometry [ 10, 15, 25], walking [ 15, 25], peripheral muscle training (i.e. quadriceps) [ 10], breathing exercises [ 15, 25], upper limb exercises [ 15, 25], yoga [ 15] and mental conditioning [ 15].
