There is a huge sense of peril in everything the Quangels do.
It's got everything: super heroes, peril, kids running the world, aliens, relatable characters (and yes I wanted to be Sam, the troubled leader, at least at first), even (if you want it) romance.
(At one point this season, Sharon hilariously refers to the idea of Rob's spermless semen as "dead glop").. Yet beyond the gonzo sex scenes and gross-out gags all of which are plentiful and wonderful Catastrophe revels in nuanced realism, exploring everything from financial peril to the terrors of aging.
He's lived a hell of a life, and, as it turned out, is a hell of a raconteur: a kind of dream interviewee, funny and frank and wise, touching on everything from the perils inherent in trying to descend from a spacecraft onstage while wearing nine-inch platform boots, to politics, to why the recent Blurred Lines court case is "bullshit".
But what happens next, the reimagining of Raheem, will be fascinating for reasons that have little to do with Uppity Young Men Who Should Know Better, or the perils of medical sedatives, and everything to do with exploring the outer reaches of a very obvious talent.
By casting each enemy candidate as a person who puts everything they live for in peril, they cleverly aggrandize not only the candidate, but themselves.
