In seven of the 14 training subjects, training days positively correlated with daily performance, indicating a steady increase of training performance over the entire training period (steady performer group).
However, linear models estimate the average marker effects and maximize the prediction performance over the whole training dataset, which means that estimates obtained from multi-line training do not necessarily best fit the data from each line.
Most participants showed increases in performance over the 10 training sessions, as indicated by the positive slopes of the linear regressions from the performance measures on the session number (Fig. 3).
The fact that rat recognition performance for these no-feedback conditions was as high as for the (size-matched) feedback conditions (in both cases, it was ∼75% correct), and both were as high as the performance over the originally trained size and azimuth axes, indicates that rats were capable of pure generalization to novel object views.
