Each room contained a two-tiered bank of 10 nestboxes (individual nestbox dimensions: 0.26 × 0.35 m and 0.36 m high), three two-tiered perches (each length of perch was 0.85 m), and were bedded with approximately 10 cm of wood shavings.
These results are consistent with considerable evidence from previous studies that natural selection shapes the association between limb length and perch diameter in anoles (Williams 1983; Losos 1990; Calsbeek and Irschick 2007).
Our previous work on anoles has shown a strong influence of correlational selection on traits such as immune function, population density, limb length, and perch diameter [ 7, 31] and work on other lizards demonstrates similar forms of selection on life history traits [ 32].
