A headline-grabbing report from the Pew Research center titled "The Fading Glory of the Television and the Telephone" shows that more Americans surveyed say that they need their home computers (49 percent), cell phones (47 percent), and even microwave ovens (45percentthanhan their TV sets (42 percent).
Seventeen percent said their phone was the only place they kept such numbers.
According to the organization's report, a quarter of American adult internet users (24 percent) have placed phone calls online.
Both tablets and e-readers still trail well behind ownership of other digita devices such as MP3 players (44percentt), DVRs (52percentt), laptops (56percentt), desktops (57 percent), and cell phones (83percentt).

In a recent global survey of information workers — people who use a computer or another smart device for at least an hour a day — Forrester Research found that 27 percent of smartphone users said they had an Android phone; 26 percent, a BlackBerry; and 24 percent, an iPhone.
