Nevertheless, if individuals perceived that this difficulty to affected them only for a part of this 6-month period, then the duration of this event was recorded, coding the responses as follows: for 5 days or less = 1; for more than 5 days, up to a month = 2; for more than 1, up to 2 months = 3; for more than 2, up to 3 months = 4; for more than 3 months = 5.
This indicates that patients perceived the difficulty and enjoyment differently across the conditions of adaptation.
Specifically, our findings are in accordance with the hypotheses that a) as objective difficulty increases, perceived difficulty increases; b) as objective difficulty increases, appropriateness decreases; and c) as perceived difficulty increases, appropriateness decreases.
Current driving scales do not include the most troublesome driving tasks for this group, which suggests that a new tool is required to assess perceived driving difficulty in this population.
However, the actual effect of this perceived difficulty cannot be precisely estimated.
Further studies might explore whether this perceived difficulty is a real determinant or a consequence of sedentary habits.
