Microsoft reported fiscal third-quarter earnings of $1.32 billion, or 12 cents per diluted share, including charges of $501 million, or five cents per share, and legal charges $1.89 billion, or 17 cents per share, related to the settlement of the Sun Microsystems litigation and a fine imposed by the European Commission.
Net income and earnings per share for the quarter were $2.53 billion and 23 cents respectively, including $359 million $536 millionn pre-tax) or 3 cents per share relating to the settlement.
Per the terms of the settlement, ADP stated it has no reason to believe problems exist with the security of Zenefits software.
Per the guidelines in the settlement, this could include any projects "designed to educate users, regulators, and enterprises regarding critical issues relating to protection of identity and personal information online through user control, and to protect users from online threats".
Nokia shares opened up around five per cent on the news of the settlement.
The per-share earnings included a gain of 2 cents from the settlement of international tax audits.
While the amount of money for authors in the settlement is just $60 per title, there will be other fees in the form of sharing in e-commerce, search and advertising.
The company added that the settlement would not materially affect its earnings per share in future years.
Both companies upped their offers for Sky at the settlement auction Saturday, with Comcast offering £17.28 per Sky ordinary share and Fox offering £15.67 per share.
