Field experiences range from brief, observation-based practicums to extensive, in-depth internships that require additional practice of pedagogical knowledge under supervision of an experienced teacher.
Supervision covers several pedagogical activities, which refer to the guidance and support of students in their learning process and assessment of students' performance.

Some common constraints that teachers face when they implement inquiry lessons are: lack of collegial supervision (Brickhouse & Bodner, 1992), lack of pedagogical skills (Adams & Krockover, 1997), lack of time (Loughran, 1994), and insufficient guides for connecting curriculum and inquiry teaching (Adam & Krockover, 1997).
Doctoral supervision is still an under-researched and little understood area of pedagogical practice [ 49, 50], and there is a particular need for more work to be done to identify and disseminate models of good practice in supervising international doctoral students [ 51, 52].
Further research is needed to understand the basic structure, content, and pedagogical approaches used for midwifery education such as structured learning experiences for students, systems for clinical supervision and mentorship, and existing methods of assessment of student's clinical skills for both the programmes.
Five organisations participated in this study: two freely accessible local disability support centres, two specialized youth care services offering intensive ambulatory care, specialized pedagogical support at home, semi-residential care, residential care and foster care, and a Child Protection Agency responsible for family supervision and guardianship.
