An intriguing group of fruit wines: dry, almond-kissed cherry; sweet-tart crabapple dessert wine; and crisp bone-dry pear wine just right to drink with a curry.
Mr. Holmberg planted grapes, and while waiting for them to produce began making fruit wines — blueberry, peach (for which he invented a machine to remove the pit), a dead dry Bartlett pear wine called Pearfection, and Three Sheets apple wine from a mix of heirloom varieties.
