Under neutral adaptation (to the gray field), the contrast sensitivity function (CSF) exhibits typical bandpass tuning with peak sensitivity for frequencies of ~ 2 4 c/deg (Kelly, 1975).
In contrast, measures of several physiological responses using short duration light exposures (generally less than 10 sec) report a peak sensitivity for melanopsin between 476 484 nm, based on pupil and mRGCs recordings in mouse [26], [27], [36] in primate [15], [28], and for pupil sensitivity in a single blind human considered to lack functional rods and cones [37].
In contrast, average peak sensitivity for auditory neuropathy group was -6.6 dB (SD: 5.4 dB).
Because the sample and reference powers were kept constant during these measurements, we can determine the loss in peak sensitivity for each cavity length offset from the falloff profiles.
At highest irradiance, these were calculated to produce a photon flux equivalent to 15.5 and 14.5 Log photons/cm/s at wavelength of peak sensitivity for L- and S-cones, respectively, and to vary between 14.7 and 15.6 Log photons/cm/s for melanopsin.

Calculations of spectral sensitivity, taking into consideration the filtering effect of the coloured intracellular spectral filters (Fig. 2B) and the ocular media (Fig. 2C), reveal peak sensitivities for the four cones in juvenile lungfish at 379 nm, 484 nm, 568 nm and 634 nm (Fig. 2D).
