Halberg hypothesized that such mood swings could be caused by a free-running desynchronized circadian rhythm with a cycle longer than 24 hours, so that its peak drifted later each day relative to the 24-hour light-dark cycle.
The PRE peak drifts were 58, 57, and 56 m/s during the three orbits, respectively.
