OpenTable, which works with 28,000 restaurants around the world, in June paid $11 million in stock to acquire JustChalo, a mobile technology company working on a payments application for restaurants.
Like its dongle-based competition, Flint's mobile payments application for both iOS and Android, is designed for use by merchants and other businesses that operate out of the traditional retail environment, but still need a way to process credit and debit card transactions, handle invoices, send out customer receipts and more.
That means that consumers could download mobile payment applications onto their phones – for example, a mass transit app for their city's subway system – and then request their financial institution to activate mobile payments on their phone.
The funding will be used to launch Bluefields' football focused player availability and payment applications this August in time for the start of the football season in the UK.
"Payleven is aiming to redefine the highest standard for mobile payment applications by offering a mobile Chip&PIN solution with the only fully compliant card reader to accept all major debit and credit cards and provide users with full fraud protection," said Ian Marsh, Payleven UK CEO & co-founder, in a statement.
The new platform is designed to foster collaboration between the financial services and mobile telecommunications sectors for the delivery of mobile payment applications and payment related services.
Gajda explains that Visa is licensing mobile payments applications PayWave for integration with the ISIS wallet and the company is actively looking for other ways to integrate with NFC into the company's mobile payments structure.
They said that their payment application would be available for virtually any smartphone, and that it would use a secure technology to process transactions.
Although, at first glance, it sounds like it could be a direct competitor to Isis, Visa's Global Head of Mobile Product Bill Gajda told TechCrunch's Leena Rao this past August that Visa is licensing its mobile payments application payWave for integration into the Isis wallet.
