Removing the seasonality and looking at the changes over time compared to long-term averages indicate similar patterns for temperatures and 18O at some locations.
Though there were series of rise and fall in temperature, the general pattern of temperature for treatments (particularly for WC and PC) was similar.
Estimates of the within-individual (βW) and between-individual (βB) components of environmental variables showed different pattern for spring temperature and breeder density effects (Table 3; Fig. 4).

Both can be subject to wide variation in weather patterns; for example, temperature below −35°C in winter and above 35°C in summer.

Along the gradient, annual minimum temperature (−1.17 °C per degree, R2 = 0.9591, P < 0.0001, linear regression) and annual precipitation (−115.80 mm per degree, R2 = 0.9432, P < 0.0001) decreased with latitude, but there was no latitudinal pattern for annual maximum temperature (R2 = 0.2009, P = 0.0817; data from the National Meteorological Center of China; Supplementary Fig. S1A, B).
