Clinicians are divided into pairs with each person taking turns conducting a visit with a standardized patient, debriefing with the standardized patient and the peer, and then repeating the cycle with a different standardized patient.
The translation followed an internationally accepted methodology into 3 steps: forward translation, backward translation, and patients' cognitive debriefing.
Current approaches suggest the employment of quantitative (e.g. factor analysis) and qualitative (e.g. patient debriefing questionnaires and patient panels) techniques.
For example, patients were debriefed on whether they considered the terms joint pain and joint stiffness to be the same, whether questions referring to both symptoms should be included, whether they should be kept as separate items and if they answered questions referring to them differently.
Patients were debriefed on the SAT, a 5-item scale evaluating pain, activity level, quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with treatment (recommend treatment and undergo treatment again).

In fact a psychiatrist at the hospital started counselling and debriefing patients just hours after the attack.
After the raters have rated the 15 patients, a debriefing questionnaire will be administered in which the raters are asked to appraise the feasibility of the observational tool (are the instructions clear; do instructions need further explications) and to comment on usefulness and face validity of the scales and its constituent indicators.
Following this, patients were asked detailed debriefing questions about the definitions/meanings of terms, understanding/clarity of instructions and item wording, and the relevance of concepts captured in each of the questionnaire items.
All patient interview informed consents, protocols, and discussion guides were approved by the New England Independent Review Board (Patient Concept Elicitation Interviews: IRB #15 140; Patient Cognitive Debriefing Interviews: IRB# 15 435).
Its content validity was assessed twice, using patient cognitive debriefing among type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients [ 27].
