Human patient characterization as well as sample preparation is described in Table S1 and Materials and Methods S1 files, respectively.
The used technique can be applied to other common complex diseases as well, and will help to complete patient characterization, in order to evolve towards personalized medicine.
Such approaches would be most easily tested and adopted in clinical trials of new drugs, where support infrastructure and patient characterization would be much higher than in the field, and success there would allow for broader adoption.
