Here are some of patients' excerpts illustrating secure and insecure attachment to a spiritual figure (Tables 5, 6, 7, 8).
[21] Nevertheless, problems arose because it was difficult to judge if all patients described as having entered into the study contributed to the results presented, as often authors reported the diagnostic accuracy for different biomarker patterns (e.g., different protein peaks), without actually providing the crude patient numbers (example excerpt below).
In the excerpt a patient is being seen by one of the interdisciplinary palliative care teams (Team B) but the patient also has an external physician, who is the primary physician for the patient.

This was clearly illustrated in this field note excerpt: A patient was expected to be discharged but is waiting for an EEG [Electroencephalogram] ordered by the consultant.
Excerpt 12 Patient: I bristled a bit, I felt like I was being talked at and I wasn't being asked …[what I knew about diabetes]…or even my first thoughts about it…… I think the big thing is is about asking people where they're at; I don't think you should assume that people have done nothing.
In the following excerpt the patient points to a convincing example of the GP's own experience: "And he [the GP] told me: 'I used to smoke but freed myself from it, and just gave up cigarettes…'; I found it more convincing that he'd said to me: 'and I freed myself from it', not from the medical point of view, but as a human, that he went through it himself; he impressed me".
Perhaps unsurprisingly, participants inevitably saw leadership emergence occurring in the best interests of the patients, as illustrated in excerpt 5 (see box 1).
The detailed descriptions in the paper of consultation excerpts alongside patient and doctor responses during interview enabled the authors to draw novel insights about areas for improvement in intracultural encounters, again with important educational implications.
