Aid officials in the Philippines praised efforts to keep safe up to one million people who fled the path of typhoon Hagupit, including a woman who gave birth in an evacuation shelter.
A remarkable amount of sea surface cooling occurred along the path of each typhoon after it had passed, except for T1221 (Figure 3i,j,k,l).
But while the areas in the path of the typhoon were devastated, much of the country was not damaged.

Thousands of people in the Philippines have been told to go to evacuation centres in preparation for Typhoon Hagupit, which is set to follow the same path of last year's Typhoon Haiyan, which left 7,300 people dead or missing.
