But while learning self defence, the young person will also learn respect, courtesy, and self-control while participating in a good exercise programme.
Try helping out at a charity event, or participating in a good cause, like the Terry Fox Run or Breast Cancer Awareness Walks, or maybe you can take part in a recycling project or helping clean out shelters or streets or something similar.

"They were very strong, very committed, came to participate in a good strong game and they were a credit to themselves," he told BBC Guernsey.
All are fully functioning members of democratic society when all are able to participate to a "good enough" extent in all of its core institutions and practices.
"We hope that people who want to manage a group in the club will know enough about the organization to participate at a good level," Evans told me over the phone.
"I've been running for 22 years, and being able to participate for a good cause, such as education, is an opportunity to help people," she said.
